Learning chords Dm, Em, and… the dreaded F major chord.

As you probably are aware, in my previous posts, I mentioned that normally I will only learn two chords per day. However, today I will try my best to learn 3 new chords! Let’s see how I go…

So, as I always do, first of all, I will start looking at my guitar chord chart and study the new chords closely that I wanted to learn. After I know what I’m doing, I will start practising on my guitar.

Learning the chords Dm and Em is an absolute breeze for me. These two chords are not stretchy at all. But the one BIG issue I have is the F major!

From what I’ve seen on my guitar chord chart, the F major chord is INCREDIBLY stretchy (probably a LOT stretchier than the C major or G major chords put together). As you can see here, down below.

That said, I need to put in a tremendous amount of power in my index finger, as it has to hold the entire fret when playing the chord.

So, I went onto YouTube to research for the best solutions to handle F major.

Many of the advanced guitar players or experienced guitarists on YouTube have mentioned that this chord took them at least from a period of 6 months to a year and a half to master F major. As a beginner of the guitar, I am in disbelief!

Here is a YouTube video of me playing the Dm, Em & F major chords on the guitar –

Upcoming Kodály Assessment Task Preparation

Today is also the day where I started to prepare for the upcoming Kodály assessment task. I have chosen my song and it will be ‘Swing Low, Sweet Chariot.’ In the next few days, I will be learning this song with the hand signs and I will further comment on this blog about my progress.

See you soon,

B. Mak
